Your questions, answered
Yes. Appen is a publicly traded data company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange under the code APX.
We are a global leader in the development of machine learning and artificial intelligence products and services. During the 25 years that we have been in business, we have accumulated more than 1,000,000 contributors who help shape our AI technology. We call these contributors, the Appen Crowd.
Will I make real money working online at Appen?
Yes, you will be paid in US Dollars. In fact, in 2022, we have already paid out more than $157,000,000 to our contributors around the world.
Payments are typically sent to your Payoneer account that you will link to your Appen Connect profile.
Can I get started on the tasks today?
Most of our projects would have a qualification process. But don’t worry! Getting started is as easy as creating an account in Appen Connect so we can easily match you to projects.
Once you’ve created your account, don’t forget to complete your profile so you do not miss out on the projects available to you.
You may also take a look at all of our available projects and apply to one that you are comfortable with.
How am I ensured that I’m being paid fairly?
We are committed to paying our contributors fairly, and strive to provide above minimum wage compensation across our global markets.
You’ll be able to track the hours that you’ve worked for in each project.

Do I need to pay anything to join a project at Appen?
No, you do not. Appen, its associates, and employees will never ask you to pay anything to join any of our projects.
I don’t have any work experience or background in technology. Can I still work on the tasks?
Yes, you can join most of our projects without work experience, and you can even work on AI-related tasks without any technical experience.
For some projects, you’ll need to pass an assessment exam and/or a language exam to be qualified.
Once you’re qualified, you can work on tasks and start earning.
I have experience and expertise in STEM subjects. Can I earn more?
If you are knowledgable or have experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Law, Programming, Health, or other subjects, please apply to our Domain Expert projects.
You’ll be able to earn much more as a subject matter expert.
The tasks that you do will directly improve the accuracy of generative AI products and services.
Can I join more than one project?
Yes, of course! You can join as many projects as you can commit your time to.
Will there always be tasks for me to do all the time?
Task availability is dependent on each project. For most projects, there will be enough tasks for everyone to complete every week.
In some projects, the number of tasks may occasionally vary – there may be more or less tasks to be completed in those periods.
How are my income taxes treated while I’m working on an Appen project?
As a general rule, those who complete tasks on Appen are considered independent contractors. That being said, you will be responsible for filing your own taxes in the manner that your country of registration may see fit.
